Our inspector’s science-related background is the foundation for his ability to identify failure mechanisms. His belief is that until the failure mechanism responsible for the existing problem has been identified, it is impossible to be comfortable with any proposed resolution of the problem.
It is normal for a flooring problem to be caused by several related anomalies. One of them will usually be the underlying failure mechanism.
The failure mechanism may be manufacturing, maintenance, Specifier or Installer related. Whatever the case, the resolution must originate where the problem started. If this is not the case the problem often recurs.
